It then runs south-east, past the southern boundary of Chalgrove Airfield, turning north-east to Stoke Talmage, crossing Haseley Brook and then passing under the M40 before turning north-west onto the A40 (Tetsworth High Street). The circuit continues west along the A40 (crossing the finish line, which is approximately 200m to the east of the junction of the A40 with the A329) and then turns south-west, back over the M40, along the A329 to complete the lap in Little Milton. There are no significant climbs to negotiate.

Remembering John and Dulcie Walker

John Walker was an avid jazzer. His bike was badged up as a Stan Getz. One of his talents was airbrushing incredibly intricate and dark satanic designs on motorbikes. He was a great wit and fine company to be with. For many years he was the Master of Ceremonies at the Willesden Cycling Club annual dinner.

Dulcie Walker (John’s mother) was also quite a character. It is thought that she held the first ever woman’s motor cycle licence in the country.

Please ensure that you park in the field adjacent to the Village Hall/Race HQ (you will be directed there) – the main car park reeds to be kept free for the race vehicles.

Please take away all of your rubbish. Empty gel packs should be put back in your pocket after use. Please go straight to the HQ after the finish of the race; do not hang around for friends at the finish line.

The Willesden race organisers will retire to the Lamb Inn, Little Milton at the end of the event. If anyone wishes to congratulate the head honcho on a fabulously run race, then actions speak louder than words; so it’s a large one for Jayne Paine please.

Other watering holes on route include:

The Crown. Stadhampton
The Lamb Inn, Chalgrove
The Red Lion, Chagrove
The Swan, Tetsworth
The Old Red Lion, Tetsworth
Three Pigeons, Milton Common

Rumours that race entry fee covers a complimentary bacon butty and a mug of builder’s tea at Raymond Blanc’s “Belmond Le Maison aux Quat’ Saisons” are nothing other than rumours. But if you do pop in for a bite, we understand that they are perfectly fine about you walking on the parquet with cleats and that helmets and sweaty, wet lycra are simply not a problem either……
