Willesden’s annual cycling event, was Reliability, now Chiltern Arrow, has been moved permanently to late summer since in 2021 such a good time was had by all. It will be taking place on Sunday 11th September. 50km and 100km rides from Chalfont St Peter. Current Willesden members enter for free, £11 for other riders. Catering included.
If you are a member but not riding the event is a great chance to meet up with other members and the club will be delighted to see you on the day.
I will email members with details of how to enter for free soonish.

I hope to see lots of you on this ride. Happy to take entries on the the day.
Wednesday 17th August 10am from Jenner’s Cafe , Ray Mead Road, Maidenhead SL6 8NP
Riverside 2 Riverside, 2 cafes – 1 ride
Many of you may know this ride, previously organised by Mick Hill and John Tipping. It really does show the best of the three counties of Berkshire, Bucks and Oxfordshire.
Starting at Jenner’s cafe in Maidenhead, there are a few ups at Marlow and Turville before the great descent down to Watlington. The ride goes through some pretty villages before the half way stop at the Waterfront Cafe in Benson. The second half of the ride takes you across open farmland at Ipsden and visits the Maharajah’s Well at Stoke Row. Going through Henley sees you on the home strait, back to Maidenhead via Knowl Hill, Fifield and the Fat Duck in Bray.
Happy to take entries on the line. A cheap day out £5 to Audax UK members, £8 for non members.
Cycling, friends, tea and cake, sounds like a good day out.

The Willesden is down to provide marshals for the above event. The event starts at 7.30 am. If you can help marshal in this event please let Gill know. She cannot do all the marshalling on her own. We can go on to have a clubrun after the event.

The first West London combine event of 2022 is a 25 mile on the Amersham Road on 20th March.
Entries to me by 11th March.
Thanks. Gill
Following the success of last year’s event in early September which had 130 riders and with the apparent demise of the Chiltern Classic Reliability series, it has been decided to keep the event in the warmer part of the year and to rename it.
It will follow more or less the same routes as last year and have the challenge of a reliability. It will be held on Sunday September 11th with rider HQ at Chalfont St Peter. I will open it for bookings in the next few weeks.
The following email has just been received from BC…From: Lucie Gallen
Subject: Training course for accredited marshals in Central Region
Evening all!First of all I want to wish you all a happy new year. I do hope you’ve managed to enjoy the festive season while avoiding the other C-word.While the race calendar is gradually taking shape, I’m writing to ask for your help. Mark Doel has managed to get two courses for accredited marshal training approved to bolster our ranks with a third one lined up. The first course is scheduled for Sunday, 16th January at Hillingdon (start 11 a.m.) with the second on 12th Feb at Abingdon.Anyway, what I want to ask you if you could help spread the word by sharing this information and link with your respective clubs (if you are a member of one), and encourage anybody interested to step up.Thanks very much for your assistance,Lucie
I am afraid that I have to report the death of another of our Life members. Iris Sacker died last week just before her 93rd birthday. Iris was always helping out in the kitchen when the club held road races etc.
Her husband Ron has arranged the funeral for Wednesday January 13th at 11am at Breakspear Cremation.
Dear WCC
I know Denis Peterson kindly passed on my thanks for the donation to the British Heart Foundation in memory of my dad, Stan Vygus. However, I ought to personally say thank you from my brother, Adrian, and myself for the £50 donation. It was an unexpected, very thoughtful and wonderful gesture. We raised over £150 in total for this charity that was very dear to Stan’s heart (pardon the pun!). It will help make up for the sponsored walks that he will, alas, walk no more.
Thanks once again, and have a great Christmas.
Robert Vygus
It is with regret that I have to report the death of Gordon Piper.
From Ian Piper:
The funeral has been arranged for 11am on Monday 1 November 2021 in the Chapel of Rest at Hedley Price Funeral Directors, Minehead. We have decided that any donations should go to the Westerley Care Home, Minehead as they were so good to Dad. Donations can be made via Hedley Price as follows:
The Westerley Amenities Fund (Westerley Care Home) c/o Hedley Price Funeral Directors, Mart Road, Minehead TA24 5BJ Tel. 01643 703111.

It is with regret that I have to report the death of Stan Vygus. He was one of the oldest members of the club. He joined when his Dad was President before the War. He was the Secretary of the Willesden Old Timers club. No details yet about funeral arrangements.

Anyone interested in the West London combine hill climb on Windsor Hill?
It’s on the 3rd October 2021, 9.30 start.
Would be nice to get a few riders from the Willesden competing.

Stuart held the 12 hour time trial record set in 2014 at 293.63 miles. He has exceeded that for the past two years, both times at the National 12 hour Championship run by Breckland CC.
In 2020 he rode 294.66 miles and this year, on August 1st, 299.22 miles, tantalisingly close to 300. This is an amazing average speed of 24.935mph.
A fantastic achievement, chapeau!

The Lakeside Cafe at the Hospice have kindly extended the breakfast menu for us until 11.30
We finally have everything confirmed. The HQ will be a the usual start / finish point for the event usually organised by John and Diane Morris the Plough at Winchmore Hill, Bucks. Sign on from 9.15 for 10.00 start. The pub owner Raff will be on site to supply early morning coffees before the start.
The route is only 48km and I’ve ridden it to check last Saturday. A gentle ride out and back.

The ride is a social event but if you help raise funds for the Thames Hospice, it would be appreciated. The half way stop is the lovely new cafe at the Hospice in Bray with views of the lake. (and very reasonable prices) We are hoping that they might extend the breakfast menu until we get there.
So if you may want to help raise money from your kind friends and some may just want to pay a tenner to ride on the day to support the event. The JustGiving page is here
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/gerard-mcmanus and funds go straight to the charity.
Alternatively you may want to use the sponsorship form as we will be doing at our local pub next weekend! And you can bring it with you on the day if you can.
Thames Hospice Sponsorship Form 2021
I would be delighted if you would confirm your attendance in advance so we can warn the hospitality sector to me via WhatsApp, Text or email on gerry@gerrymcmanus.co.uk
Looking forward to seeing you all helping to support a good cause and meet some friends.
Non cyclists welcome just for a slice of pizza or a coffee.
