Glad’s Tidings w/e 5-6 July 08

Road Racing
It has been a blustery weekend and this has affected the results. On Tuesday evening down at Hillingdon John Williams and Rich Cooper rode to finish in 16th and 17th places in the 4th cat. race.

Richard Jerome rode at Eelmore in the 40 mile Surrey League event on Wednesday evening and finished in 15th place. He also rode in the Finchley Road Club event on Sunday. Richard got away with another rider for two laps. He had to rest on the last lap as he didn’t have enough in his legs to go on his own. He fellow escapee did not help so he had to do tons of work to try and maintain the gap. He finished in a very good fifth place and really enjoyed himself.

Testers
On Saturday Brian Moon recorded 27.46 in the Herts Wheelers.

Sunday saw Ed Packard riding the ECCA 100 and he covered the 1st 50miles in 2hours 8minutes but the wind did not ease up and he finished in 4.32.22.

Club Run
The club run was to Benson to see the Veteran Cycle Rally but only the Old Timers in their cars braved the weather. Taking part was Rory McGrath, the TV presenter, and Ron Purdy, Ron Newell, Margaret Brett and Stan Vygus were enlisted to be part of the “crowd” at the finish line.

Cheers for now,
Gladys
